The Willow varsity boys’ soccer team has entered the new season with high expectations and returning determination. After finishing last year with an impressive 19–3–3 record and heartbreaking playoff loss, the team is out for redemption, and they’re ready to prove they belong back on top.
Players and supporters around campus can feel the determination building, and many believe this year’s roster has the talent and discipline to make it far this season.
This year’s lineup features many returning players, including senior captain Oliver Morse, Sal Glasco, and Caliste Reggio. Together, they bring a combination of experience, chemistry, and leadership.
Morse, now in his third year as captain, has explained that the role has big responsibilities and expectations. Nonetheless, he continues to do an excellent job. He understands the weight of the role and the trust his teammates place in him.
“I want to make sure everybody is mentally ready for every game and make sure everybody is playing to the best of their abilities,” Morse said. “As a team, the goal will always be a state championship.”
Glasco has emphasized how much the team believes in its potential. Known for his dedication and team work, he says this year’s group already feels tightly connected. “We most definitely have the talent and chemistry to make it to the playoffs and even win a championship,” Glasco said. “We just need to have full team dedication.”
Reggio, a key contributor in the program’s 2023 and 2024 state titles, understands the level of work required to win at this level. For him, last season’s early exit struck a nerve.
“Our early departure from the 2025 playoffs inspires me, as well as many other players,” he said. “We’re also motivated by the program’s history of winning.” Reggio’s experience and dedication sets the standard for younger players hoping to follow in his footsteps.
Preparation for the season has been intense. The team practices daily, including conditioning sessions focused on building stamina, coordination, and discipline. Glasco explained that their approach this year is centered on discipline and accountability.
“As a team, we prepare by practicing every single day,” Glasco said. “We focus on ourselves and make sure we’re doing the right things.” Players describe practices as competitive and energetic, with each session reinforcing their shared commitment to improvement.
One of the most anticipated matchups this season is the January 22, 2026 game against Ben Franklin—the team that ended last year’s playoff run. Morse explained, “They ended our playoff run last year in a game we should’ve won. I don’t think any of the guys have forgotten that loss—it’s the driving force of the team this year.”
As the season continues, the players hope that everyone shows up and supports them. With a roster full of returning talent, leadership, strong team chemistry, and a powerful desire for redemption, the varsity boys’ soccer team is ready for another remarkable season. This year, they’re not just aiming for the playoffs–they’re determined to reclaim that championship title.
