November 18th marked the grand return of the Willow School’s Amazing Event. For those who don’t know what that is, the Amazing Event is our school’s field day. Think food, games, and competitions all day to take part in.

Every year the Amazing Event takes on a new theme. The 2022 theme was Dinner vs Dessert. Teams consist of paired advisories. There were 32 paired advisories, with 8th-9th being paired with 10th-12h grade groups, competing this year. The advisories were split down the middle evenly into the Dinner and Dessert Leagues. From the leagues, the teams were split up into brackets.

The Amazing Event was hosted by Henry Morse, Sam Drew, and Donovan Ligier. Student Life members helped set up the event in the gym before the advisors arrived.

“I’m excited that things are starting to feel normal again,” said senior Macailen Davis. “I mean, we have a new field!”

Many students were in great spirits for the day despite the cold weather.

There were four games involved this year that were very goofy, indeed. The goal of the games was for them to be as goofy as possible. The first game was a relay race that involved getting a basketball into a bin without the ball touching anyone’s hands. The second game was the waiter game in which students had to create an order and bring it back to the judge while only using one hand to deliver the dish. The third game was a human banana split in which participants had to assemble themselves into a human banana split. Participants used T-shirts, yoga balls, and a cherry on top. The fourth game was human pizza during which participants got into a human pyramid and began to throw toppings on top of a dish until it resembled a pizza.

The winner of the Dessert League was the Chocolate Chip Cookies (Mueller/Rafkin advisory pair). The winner of the Dinner League was Happy Meals (Gingold/Ferrara advisory pair). The most spirited advisory was the Cookie Monsters. Every winning team was full of team players. Advisories that won received a pizza or ice cream party, depending on whether they were in Dinner or Dessert League.

Advisories also participated in a scavenger hunt. The scavenger hunt consisted of various challenges from the Willow School to Audubon park. The advisory that completed the challenges the quickest took home the victory.

In between the scavenger hunt and goofy games, lunch was served. Students had the option of picking from six food trucks. After receiving their meal, there was a 50-minute lunch period. Students could mingle with their friends or eat with their advisors.

“We were so excited to bring the Amazing Event back!” Amazing Event organizer Carol Eshleman said. “We hadn’t been able to have one since 2019, and it’s these sorts of community building events that COVID had really stolen from us. That was really my focus in getting it done, giving kids these amazing memories back.”
