What’s a soiree, you ask? An evening event that is formal or refined in some way, of course! Did you know that Willow has thrown an annual parent Soiree for the past 13 years to help raise money for the school?
This year’s Soiree, themed with a throwback to the ‘90s, was a great success this year. The event, hosted on October 28 at Central City BBQ, sold 309 tickets.
Everyone came dressed in their favorite ‘90s fashion, some of which were undoubtedly taken from personal closets. “My favorite outfits were Ice-Ice Baby by Ms. Clouger and her husband,” Phylicia Richardson, head of the PTSA, said, “and I also saw a couple dressed as Blockbuster workers.”
This year’s venue was chosen because the restaurant itself is very spacious, with indoor and outdoor options, which allowed for a DJ to be inside while a live band played outside. Food was another major factor as to why Central City BBQ was chosen, as having all the food cooked on site allowed for more to be ordered if needed.
Speaking of food, there was a wide variety offered, including mixed veggies, brussel sprouts, bacon mac and cheese, regular mac and cheese, pulled pork, pulled chicken, and brownies.
“The food was awesome!” High School Principal Mr. Hill said. “I love BBQ!”
Music is always a big part of these events, and this year’s DJ was Mr. Joseph, Willow’s own P.E. teacher and girls’ basketball coach. The Stooges Brass Band played outside, as well as Willow Math teacher Mr. Creech’s band.
This year’s funds raised went to supporting campus improvement projects, teacher meals, athletics, the arts guild, and other PTSA projects.
