We’re pleased to continue our new advice column called “Dear Abby (and Kate),” answered by Willow students Abby Gotzgowsky and Kate Bilbro. This column is based on the decades-long syndicated advice column called “Dear Abby,” which ran in more than 1,200 newspapers at its peak. Started in 1956, it began by Pauline Phillips and is today carried on by her daughter, Jeanne Phillips. The column still appears in many newspapers nationwide.

Our very own Willow version works like this: If you’re interested in asking us a question, please write it down and drop it off in our question box, which is placed at the front desk. Questions can range from advice on personal matters to opinionated questions about larger social issues. Just keep it school appropriate, as always! We want to answer as many questions as possible and hope everyone enjoys “Dear Abby (and Kate).”

  1. What is signing day?  Signing day occurs when student athletes officially sign a National Letter of Intent (NLI). Many students choose to sign with friends and family members attending. This year, nine Willow students participated in signing day. Enzo Marino, a D1 athlete signed to Nichols State, was able to provide some information about his future in football. There were several reasons Marino chose Nichols, some of which included a full-ride scholarship and close proximity to New Orleans, and Nichols’ recent success in their conference. “What I’ll probably miss most is all of the seniors and coaches who have helped me improve over the past few years,” Marino said. Although he felt stressed throughout the recruitment process, Marino was most excited to find the best fit for his talent and believes he has found it with Nichols State!
  2. What is your favorite parade? Our favorite parade is Muses. I like all of the items they throw and the beautiful floats. This year, my favorite Muses throw was an orange beanie. It is stylish, practical, and will most definitely be worn.
  3. What is your favorite show right now?

Our favorite show right now is Abbott Elementary. Episodes of the newest season release every Wednesday, and we have been watching. It’s inspiring to see how Quinta Brunson, creator and star of the show, has progressed from a Youtuber on BuzzFeed to an Emmy award winner.

  1. What’s your favorite Girl Scout cookie?

Abby- Caramel DeLites

Kate- Peanut Butter Patties

  1. What was your favorite Black History Month door decoration?

Our favorite door was Ms. Duffy’s advisory. It was impressive to see how her advisory students used feathers and beads to create their poster, and the final outcome was perfect.
