Opening for Taylor Swift is no small feat, but singer songwriter Gracie Abrams got the job done. On the nights of October 25 to the 27th, Abrams performed to a sold out Caesar’s’ Superdome. Her set and style left both fans and people who had not heard of her before wanting more.
Willow parent Elise Goldman “was not a Gracie Abrams’s fan” before the show, but after seeing the show on Sunday the 27th, Goldman’s opinion changed.
“I really liked her set,” said Goldman. “I thought that she did a good job of balancing energy with the ethereal thing that she had going on. She has an unusual voice that I think is very beautiful.”
“I like her more. I didn’t like her as much when I heard songs on the radio, but after hearing her live, I will listen to her more,” Goldman continued.
“I am a pretty big fan and listen to a lot of her music pretty regularly,” reported Lola Daschbach, a Willow sophomore, before the concert. She and her friends listen to Gracie’s music often.
“It was an amazing show,” Daschbach said, speaking about the concert after she saw it on Saturday the 26th. “I feel very lucky that I got to see one of my favorite artists while she is still up and coming.”
Dashcbach connected with the show on a deep level. “I really enjoyed when she played ‘I love you I’m sorry’,” a fairly new track off of Abrams’ new album titled The Secret of Us, “because it is one of my favorite songs,” she reported. “My friends and I always scream that song whenever it comes on, and then we got to sing it live all together.
“I’m a big fan, and I knew a lot of the songs,” said sophomore Margo Montelibano, “so it was a fun opportunity to enjoy her music.”
“I loved her set. I thought it was a good blend of her old and her newer songs,” Montelibano stated.
And it’s not just these people that were enchanted by Abrams’ talent. “The whole audience was very energetic,” reported Montelibano, giving an account of the concert. “Everyone there was just excited to see her as they were to see Taylor Swift.”
“The audience loved Gracie. Her energy filled the audience with high vibes and gratitude,” described Goldman.
“Her voice speaks for itself,” said Montelibano, which appeared to be the overall consensus.
“I’ve grown up with her voice in my headphones my entire life,” Gracie said in an interview while speaking about Taylor Swift. To go from listening to a musical artist as a kid, to opening for her in front of ten of thousands of people is quite a success for Abrams. At only 25, Gracie Abrams has had a massive boom in popularity.
“She did a phenomenal job, considering how new she is to the music industry,” Montelibano said.
