Last season’s run in the Division III Championship set the stage for our transition to Division II. This year was filled with hard-fought games and exceptional teamwork trying to live up to expectations set last year.
When our school won the Division III State Championship last year, we moved up from Division III to Division II. This transition came with a significantly tougher schedule and more challenging opponents. As such, it represented a major advancement for our soccer program, elevating our rankings both nationally and statewide, and solidifying our team’s reputation as one of the stronger athletic programs in the school.
The season’s final record was 19 wins, 3 losses, and 4 draws. We faced a heartbreaking defeat against our rival, Franklin, which dashed our championship hopes. However, notable highlights included a 2-0 victory against Rummel and competitive matches against Holy Cross and Newman, the latter being a Division I program.
The team worked very hard and exhibited remarkable chemistry and collaboration.
“We had our fair share of ups and downs, as any team does,” said junior Oliver Morse. “Bu throughout the year, we remained extremely resilient during tough times.”
Another important aspect of the team is the seniors who are sadly departing. Senior Charlie Curran stated, “I love all the outgoing seniors. They are all such great people.”
“This class was extremely special,” Morse said. “Without a doubt, they were the heart of the team. They were always very encouraging, thoughtful, and passionate.”
The team is a strong unit composed of talented players. Although we struggled with finishing games and “dominating” teams that were overall weaker, Oliver Morse pointed out that we performed well on paper, especially considering we were in Division III just last year.
Please support the boys’ soccer team by coming to watch next season, and let’s hope for a championship win!
