Some Like It Hot: What to Wear When It Is

As the hot summer months approach, a new selection of clothing is high on my to-do list and should be on yours, too, if you can swing it financially. Old apparel hanging drably in your closet can bring you down, and the possibilities for a new wardrobe are endless. Let me show you some classic pieces that you’ll be able to wear for multiple summers. All photos are direct links.

Jean shorts. I have two options, so we’ll see if one of them is your perfect pair. The first option (and probably best) is, of course, the more expensive. Coming in at $110, the One Teaspoon Low Rise Bandit Shorts are universally flattering and come in more colors than you could imagine. However, is over $100 over the top for a pair of shorts?

The second option is from Hollister. This pair features a low-rise, more relaxed fit, with a little extra length in the leg. This is actually one of the things that I like most about this pair. You are able to wear them longer, as well as cuff the bottom once or twice for a shorter look. These come in 4 different colors.

When you wear your new pair of jean shorts, you’re obviously going to need a cute, summery top to go with them. I’ve got you covered.

I like a top that’s easily dressed up or down. These white Zara tops both match that credential. Priced around $40 each, these tops can be thrown on with a pair of shorts, or worn with a nice pair of jeans and cute sandals when going out to eat.

The Free People Dahlia Top comes in the perfect variety of summer colors and can be worn very diversely. Put it on over a swimsuit, or go on a bike ride sporting it.

The Princess Polly Lunya top is adorable, and Princess Polly is always having a sale, so you can snag this piece at a cheaper price.

One of the best feelings that I’ve come to experience is getting ready on vacation for a delicious dinner after a long day in the sun . Finally putting on the dress you bought specially for that occasion is so exciting. Here are a couple of dresses that can give you that feeling.

This $80 yellow mini dress from Revolve is the definition of adorable. With light, airy fabric and an open back, it’s perfect for dinner on the beach.

For a longer look, this strapless maxi dress is perfect for warm weather, and everybody looks good in an eyelet pattern. For $169, with its pastel colors and strapless neckline, this dress is a great option for any elevated summer dining.

One of the first things that comes to mind when I think of summer is pinstripes, and seersucker is a Southern classic This $70 blue and white pinstriped dress features a strapless neckline and the cutest ruffle detailing. If you want to dress for Southern charm this summer, buy this dress. On a side note, the brand Fortunate One has really beautiful maxi dresses at very reasonable prices. Most of them are under $100.

To tie an outfit together, accessories are essential. Shoes, jewelry, sunglasses, and bags can make or break an outfit. Here are some options.

For jewelry, I’m a big fan of the brand Gorjana. They have some nice pieces at an affordable price, and none of my jewelry has ever tarnished when I buy from them. This matching necklace ($75) and bracelet ($55) are so pretty and need to be worn on your next vacation.

These Steve Madden heels can be worn not just in the summer, but year-round, too. Both are $80 and come in so many different colors. If you need a nice heel for a special occasion, these are your best bets.

VANLINKER Retro 70s Square Aviator Sunglasses for Women Men Vintage Trendy Rectangle Sun Glasses VL9816

SOJOS Sunglasses for Women & Men, Square, Retro, Polarized Lens, Trendy Aviator, 90s Shades

Sunglasses are a must buy, and these two are great options, both around $15. The bottom pair are from SOJOS, and they’re very sturdy.

Finally, arguably THE most important item of clothing you will put on your body during the summer time–a bathing suit. The first brand I found is the most affordable, with a set costing around $60-$70. Bright Swimwear has, as the name suggests, bright-colored swimsuits. They have a myriad of different styles of tops and bottoms.

Another brand that I think has some cute pieces is Elysiian Swim, with a set ranging from $100-$120. This brand has great quality bikinis and one pieces that come in many different colors.

Once you stock up on these essential pieces, you’ll be the belle of the beach.
