Prom night has come and gone, but the memories from our last night together as seniors will not be forgotten.
The ambience of the venue was amazing. There was a venue change from previous years from the Superdome to the Smoothie King Center. It was much smaller, but that had its ups and downs. It got hot and crowded, and there wasn’t always somewhere to sit, but on the other hand, we danced. And danced. There was a lot more dancing because of the smaller space.
And that’s a good thing!
I’ll remember the second I stepped out of the car, I was surrounded with the city lights, glowing signs, and city buildings.
Inside, the bathrooms were very clean and, as per usual, one of the best places for socializing. One of the first things that I noticed when seeing the event space was that, even though it was smaller than last year, it was a lot more decorated than dances previous. There were lights, balloon arches, and even styrofoam light up sticks to dance with. The event space had a dancefloor, a row of long tables for people to sit and eat, there was a bar for drinks, a counter for food, and there was even a free photo booth with lots of fun props.
But one of the most popular places to be was the outdoor patio. With the nice breeze and reprieve from the small space full of dancers inside, the ample seating on the patio was a great addition to the venue space.
During the event, the dance floor was occupied most of the night, and you could just feel the dance floor energy all night, which wasn’t there with the previous huge space in the Superdome. Just be prepared to get your toes stepped on if you were in heels if you decided to brave the mosh pit.
The dancing went on even though many thought the DJ was not bad but not great, which made it even more amazing. We were determined to dance no matter what song was on.
“The DJ was fine, but a lot of the songs were repeating,” said Owen Morris.
One thing I did note that wasn’t as good as last year was the food options. There were chicken tenders, eggrolls, and some mini sandwiches. The chicken tenders had raving reviews all around, and I heard that the egg rolls were pretty good as well, but the usual fancy dessert spread was sorely missed.
“The chicken was really good, and I liked all of the sauce options that they had,” said Bella Caleyo.
“I, for one, was looking forward to those little bite-sized desserts, and I missed that, but it was worth it to see people dancing all night in the new venue,” Ms. Crockett, who chaperoned, said. “That’s what you should be doing at your senior prom!”
And finally, one of the most anticipated parts of prom is seeing all the different style trends. After all, it’s not every Saturday night you get to see people in formal attire. This year, I noticed a lot more ball gown dresses, as in full-length, full, and frothy.
A lot of the dresses had much more design, glitter, and accessories, which was clearly a trend this year and beautiful to see under the dance floor lights. I also noticed that arm cuffs and hair updos were also a thing this year.
In the end, prom isn’t just about the glitz and glam and the food and the venue. It’s about making memories with the people that will make high school unforgettable. And it’s about dancing the night away with those people. I’m not likely to forget the last dance of high school any time soon.
