The Willow Lionettes volleyball team enters the second half of the season with a remarkable 7 – 2 record, losing only to Country Day and Ursuline Academy. This achievement reflects the team’s consistent dedication and strong performance throughout the entire season.
The Willow School Lions’ volleyball team is a member of the LHSAA, which means the team competes competitively in class 4A. The Willow School Lions are coached by Kalah Jones and the varsity team is captained by Kennedy Miller, a senior at the Willow School. The Willow School Lions have both a Junior Varsity and a Varsity volleyball teams.
Although the team has had an excellent season so far, some players predict difficult games.
“I think our most challenging game will be Sacred Heart, and they will put our team to the test,” said Stella Gorman, a player on the school’s Junior Varsity team. The teams are scheduled to play on October 29th, 2025.
¨I think the most difficult game for the Varsity team this season will be against Ben Franklin,” said Myla Brown, a freshman on the Varsity team.“Their volleyball team has always been good, but I think we can beat them.¨
Regardless of the team’s record this season, many players have noticed an improvement within the overall team especially on the offense.
¨I see us becoming better competitors and reaching a higher level offensively,¨ said Kennedy Miller.
¨I see us doing really well and making it to state. We have an amazing team. We just need more chemistry within the team,¨ Myla Brown said.
Although many see the team improving, some players argue that they receive less funding compared to other athletic programs in the school, such as the football team.
“I am really enjoying the coaching in the program, but I think something that would strengthen our program even more would be an increase in funding,” said Gorman.
Gorman isn’t alone. Some players admit they feel as if they need to provide more funding for themselves compared to other sports.
¨I think compared to other athletic programs at our school, we have to advocate for ourselves to get resources we need,¨ said Miller.
