I recently did a poll of Lusher high school students about their Wednesdays habits to get a sense of how students are spending their unexpected COVID benefit–asynchronous Wednesdays.
Lusher high school students overwhelmingly wake up an hour or so later than they typically would on a regular school day. No mandatory morning Zoom calls give students more time to sleep and relax before getting ready to meet the day.
Similar to the weekend, around half the students do minimal schoolwork on asynchronous Wednesdays, while the other half is a bit more diligent, getting as much done as usual or even more than they would typically finish on other days. Wednesdays are a great day to catch up whether you need to catch up on relaxation, schoolwork, or nutrition.
It looks like many students are able to get in valuable exercise on their asynchronous day–nearly half of the survey group, in fact. Students also are able to pursue other hobbies and part time jobs with their time. It is also a great time for some of us to catch up on much needed sleep.
In terms of nutrition, students clearly generally seem to eat well on Wednesdays. Roughly 75% of the students in this sample either ate consistently compared to other days or better. There is a small minority of crammers who answered that they forget to eat because they’re so busy with school work, which is a bit concerning. Even though Cinnamon Toast Crunch is objectively the best cereal, I would urge you to reconsider your nutrition plan.
Finally, at the end of the day when it’s time to get some sleep, Lusher students go to bed at responsible times–at least according to this poll. Half go to bed per their regular sleep schedule, and the other half stays up a bit later as if it were a weekend. There was one person who actually responded that he/she couldn’t sleep because he/she was in bed all day. We will keep you in our thoughts.
